With Germany 2006 in full swing and just eight teams left with a chance to dream, FIFAworldcup.com met up with the FIFA President to gauge his thoughts on the event so far. Taking time out from his busy routine of planes, trains and automobiles (he watches at least one match per day, if not two) Joseph S. Blatter speaks candidly in this exclusive interview about the greatest show on earth.
Joseph S. Blatter: As happens every four years, the entire world is holding its breath and football lovers everywhere are out in force. We have witnessed scenes of joy in the streets of Sydney and Accra after Australia and Ghana qualified for the Round of 16. Four years ago it was the same in Dakar, Seoul and so on. I don't think there's another event like it on earth. Only football can engender so much emotion. You only have to look at the television viewing figures, or our own on FIFAworldcup.com (smiles). Everyone loves the World Cup and everyone's getting caught up in it alongside the teams.
